THEME:  "THE ART OF BIRDING"

Audubon North Carolina and the Audubon Society of Forsyth County are pleased to invite all members, friends and bird enthusiasts to the 2016 Audubon NC Annual Meeting, which will be held May 13-15, 2016 (Friday - Sunday) in and around Winston-Salem.

Winston-Salem is often referred to as the "City of the Arts" partly because it created the first arts council in the United States, founded in 1949, and because of the local art schools and attractions. These include the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Twin City Stage, Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance, the Piedmont Opera Theater, the Winston-Salem Symphony, the Stevens Center for the Performing Arts, the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts, the Hanesbrands Theater, and the Sawtooth Center for Visual Arts.

Playing to the tremendous culture of arts appreciation, our annual meeting theme is “The Art of Birding”. This year’s meeting boasts a variety of activities that will appeal to all types of outdoor enthusiasts. We are offering birding trips to some of Forsyth County’s most unique natural areas, including the Pilot Mountain State Park Yadkin River and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Meeting participants can participate in hands-on activities as well as tour the Emily Allen Wildflower Preserve Friendship Garden and the Historic Bethabara Park. Conservation workshops on Saturday will include discussions on how to become involved in advocating for long-term protection of strongholds for birds being impacted by climate change,  information about choosing and growing  bird-friendly native plants, and how to take steps to help and attract the 2016 Bird of the Year, the Chimney Swift.

AMBASSADOR TRAINING

If you would like to register for the Audubon Ambassador Training on Friday, May 13 from 10 am - 2 pm, please do so here: www.ncaudubon.eventbrite.com.
